Chapter on Companionship and Sitting – Report refuting the claim that this narration has no basis
Hadith Number: 571
اخبرنا محمد بن عبد الرحمن الدغولي ، كتابة، قال: حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن بشر بن الحكم ، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن واقد، قال: حدثني ابي ، قال: حدثني ثابت ، عن انس بن مالك ، قال: كنت جالسا عند عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، إذ مر رجل، فقال رجل من القوم: يا رسول الله إني لاحب هذا الرجل، قال:" هل اعلمته ذاك؟"، قال: لا، قال:" قم اعلمه"، فقام إليه، فقال: يا هذا، والله إني لاحبك، قال: احبك الذي احببتني له .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). A man passed by, and one of those present said, "O Messenger of Allah! I love this person." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Have you told him this?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Get up and tell him." So the man got up, went to him, and said, "O so-and-so! By Allah, I love you." The man replied, "May He for whose sake you love me, love you in return."
