Chapter on Backbiting – Warning against seeking out Muslims’ mistakes and shaming them
Hadith Number: 5763
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended this pulpit and announced in a loud voice. He (peace be upon him) said: O people who have become Muslims with their tongues, but faith has not entered their hearts, do not harm the Muslims, do not disgrace them, and do not seek out their hidden matters. For whoever seeks out the hidden matters of a Muslim, Allah Almighty will investigate his hidden matters, and Allah Almighty will disgrace the one whose hidden matters He investigates, even if that person is inside his house.
(The narrator states) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) once looked towards the House of Allah and said: How great is your status, how great is your sanctity, but in the sight of Allah Almighty, the sanctity of a believer is greater than yours.
