Salim narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): During the blessed time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when someone saw a dream, he would relate it before the Prophet (peace be upon him). In those days, I was a young, unmarried man and used to sleep in the mosque. I saw in a dream that two angels took hold of me and led me towards Hell. It was round like a well and had two edges. I saw some people in it whom I recognized. I began to say: "I seek refuge with Allah from Hell." I said this twice. Then another angel met those two angels and said to me: "Do not be afraid."
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I related this dream to Sayyidah Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and she related it to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Abdullah bin Umar is a good man, except that he offers very few voluntary prayers at night."
Salim narrates: After that, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) made it his habit to sleep very little at night (and spent most of the time offering voluntary prayers).
