Chapter on Supplications – Explaining that Allah answers the supplication of one who raises his hands if he does not ask for sin or hasten the response
Hadith Number: 881
اخبرنا ابن قتيبة ، قال: حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى ، قال: حدثنا ابن وهب ، قال: اخبرنا معاوية بن صالح ، عن ربيعة بن يزيد ، عن ابي إدريس الخولاني ، عن ابي هريرة ، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " لا يزال يستجاب للعبد ما لم يدع بإثم، او قطيعة رحم، ما لم يستعجل"، قيل: يا رسول الله، كيف يستعجل؟ قال:" يقول: قد دعوت فلم يستجب لي، فينحسر عند ذلك، فيترك الدعاء" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A servant's supplication continues to be accepted as long as he does not pray for something sinful or for severing ties of kinship, and as long as he does not show impatience." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What does showing impatience mean?" The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "It is when he says, 'I prayed but my supplication was not accepted,' and thus he becomes disheartened and stops supplicating."
