The Book of Al-Janaiz (Funerals)
باب ما جاء فى عذاب القبر:
(86) Chapter. Wha is said regarding the punishment in the grave.
Hadith Number: 1370
حدثنا علي بن عبد الله، حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم، حدثني ابي , عن صالح، حدثني نافع، ان ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما اخبره , قال:" اطلع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على اهل القليب , فقال: وجدتم ما وعد ربكم حقا، فقيل له: تدعو امواتا، فقال: ما انتم باسمع منهم ولكن لا يجيبون".
Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true what your Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead people." He replied, "You do not hear better than they but they cannot reply."

Hadith Number: 1371
حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد، حدثنا سفيان، عن هشام بن عروة، عن ابيه، عن عائشة رضي الله عنها , قالت: إنما قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إنهم ليعلمون الآن ان ما كنت اقول حق، وقد قال الله تعالى: إنك لا تسمع الموتى سورة النمل آية 80".
Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet said, "They now realize that what I used to tell them was the truth. "And Allah said, 'Verily! You cannot make the dead to hear (i.e. benefit them, and similarly the disbelievers) nor can you make the deaf hear. (27.80).

Hadith Number: 3981
حدثني عثمان، حدثنا عبدة، عن هشام، عن ابيه، عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما، قال: وقف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على قليب بدر، فقال:" هل وجدتم ما وعد ربكم حقا"، ثم قال:" إنهم الآن يسمعون ما اقول" , فذكر لعائشة، فقالت: إنما قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إنهم الآن ليعلمون ان الذي كنت اقول لهم هو الحق" , ثم قرات إنك لا تسمع الموتى سورة النمل آية 80 حتى قرات الآية.
Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet stood at the well of Badr (which contained the corpses of the pagans) and said, "Have you found true what your lord promised you?" Then he further said, "They now hear what I say." This was mentioned before `Aisha and she said, "But the Prophet said, 'Now they know very well that what I used to tell them was the truth.' Then she recited (the Holy Verse):-- "You cannot make the dead hear... ...till the end of Verse)." (30.52)

Hadith Number: 4026
حدثنا إبراهيم بن المنذر، حدثنا محمد بن فليح بن سليمان، عن موسى بن عقبة، عن ابن شهاب، قال:" هذه مغازي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم" , فذكر الحديث، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو يلقيهم:" هل وجدتم ما وعدكم ربكم حقا"، قال: موسى، قال نافع: قال عبد الله: قال ناس من اصحابه: يا رسول الله تنادي ناسا امواتا، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" ما انتم باسمع لما قلت منهم"، قال ابو عبد الله:" فجميع من شهد بدرا من قريش ممن ضرب له بسهمه احد وثمانون رجلا , وكان عروة بن الزبير، يقول: قال الزبير: قسمت سهمانهم فكانوا مائة والله اعلم".
Narrated Ibn Shihab: These were the battles of Allah's Apostle (which he fought), and while mentioning (the Badr battle) he said, "While the corpses of the pagans were being thrown into the well, Allah's Apostle said (to them), 'Have you found what your Lord promised true?" `Abdullah said, "Some of the Prophet's companions said, "O Allah's Apostle! You are addressing dead people.' Allah's Apostle replied, 'You do not hear what I am saying, better than they.' The total number of Muslim fighters from Quraish who fought in the battle of Badr and were given their share of the booty, were 81 men." Az-Zubair said, "When their shares were distributed, their number was 101 men. But Allah knows it better."

Hadith Number: 4525
فقال: قالت عائشة: معاذ الله , والله ما وعد الله رسوله من شيء قط، إلا علم انه كائن قبل ان يموت، ولكن لم يزل البلاء بالرسل حتى خافوا ان يكون من معهم يكذبونهم، فكانت تقرؤها وظنوا انهم قد كذبوا سورة يوسف آية 110 مثقلة".
