The Book of Witnesses
باب لا يسأل أهل الشرك عن الشهادة وغيرها:
(29) Chapter. Al-Mushrikun (idolaters, polytheists, and pagans) should not be asked to give witness or the like (i.e., their witnesses are not acceptable).
Hadith Number: 2685
حدثنا يحيى بن بكير، حدثنا الليث، عن يونس، عن ابن شهاب، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة، عن عبد الله بن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: يا معشر المسلمين، كيف تسالون اهل الكتاب، وكتابكم الذي انزل على نبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم احدث الاخبار بالله تقرءونه لم يشب، وقد حدثكم الله ان اهل الكتاب بدلوا ما كتب الله، وغيروا بايديهم الكتاب، فقالوا: هو من عند الله، ليشتروا به ثمنا قليلا، افلا ينهاكم ما جاءكم من العلم عن مساءلتهم، ولا والله ما راينا منهم رجلا قط يسالكم عن الذي انزل عليكم".
Narrated Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah bin `Utba: Ibn `Abbas said, "O Muslims? How do you ask the people of the Scriptures, though your Book (i.e. the Qur'an) which was revealed to His Prophet is the most recent information from Allah and you recite it, the Book that has not been distorted? Allah has revealed to you that the people of the scriptures have changed with their own hands what was revealed to them and they have said (as regards their changed Scriptures): This is from Allah, in order to get some worldly benefit thereby." Ibn `Abbas added: "Isn't the knowledge revealed to you sufficient to prevent you from asking them? By Allah I have never seen any one of them asking (Muslims) about what has been revealed to you."

Hadith Number: 7363
حدثنا موسى بن إسماعيل، حدثنا إبراهيم، اخبرنا ابن شهاب، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله، ان ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال:" كيف تسالون اهل الكتاب عن شيء وكتابكم الذي انزل على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم احدث تقرءونه محضا لم يشب؟ وقد حدثكم ان اهل الكتاب بدلوا كتاب الله وغيروه وكتبوا بايديهم الكتاب، وقالوا هو من عند الله ليشتروا به ثمنا قليلا سورة البقرة آية 79 الا ينهاكم ما جاءكم من العلم عن مسالتهم؟ لا والله ما راينا منهم رجلا يسالكم عن الذي انزل عليكم".
Narrated Ubaidullah: Ibn `Abbas said, "Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Qur'an) which has been revealed to Allah's Apostle is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you!"

Hadith Number: 7522
حدثنا علي بن عبد الله، حدثنا حاتم بن وردان، حدثنا ايوب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال:" كيف تسالون اهل الكتاب عن كتبهم، وعندكم كتاب الله اقرب الكتب عهدا بالله تقرءونه محضا لم يشب".
Narrated `Ikrima: Ibn `Abbas said, "How can you ask the people of the Scriptures about their Books while you have Allah's Book (the Qur'an) which is the most recent of the Books revealed by Allah, and you read it in its pure undistorted form?"

Hadith Number: 7523
حدثنا ابو اليمان، اخبرنا شعيب، عن الزهري، اخبرني عبيد الله بن عبد الله، ان عبد الله بن عباس، قال:" يا معشر المسلمين، كيف تسالون اهل الكتاب عن شيء؟ وكتابكم الذي انزل الله على نبيكم صلى الله عليه وسلم احدث الاخبار بالله محضا لم يشب، وقد حدثكم الله ان اهل الكتاب قد بدلوا من كتب الله وغيروا، فكتبوا بايديهم الكتب، قالوا: هو من عند الله ليشتروا بذلك ثمنا قليلا، اولا ينهاكم ما جاءكم من العلم عن مسالتهم فلا والله ما راينا رجلا منهم يسالكم عن الذي انزل عليكم".
Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah: `Abdullah bin `Abbas said, "O the group of Muslims! How can you ask the people of the Scriptures about anything while your Book which Allah has revealed to your Prophet contains the most recent news from Allah and is pure and not distorted? Allah has told you that the people of the Scriptures have changed some of Allah's Books and distorted it and wrote something with their own hands and said, 'This is from Allah, so as to have a minor gain for it. Won't the knowledge that has come to you stop you from asking them? No, by Allah, we have never seen a man from them asking you about that (the Book Al-Qur'an) which has been revealed to you.
