Musnad Hadith

A Musnad (elevated) hadith is one whose chain of narration (isnād) is uninterrupted and fully connected, without any kind of break or gap. (Note: A general Marfū‘ (elevated) hadith may sometimes be munqaṭi‘ or mu‘ḍal, i.e., disconnected or with multiple missing links.)

Muttaṣil Hadith

A Muttaṣil (connected) hadith or report is one whose chain of narration is completely uninterrupted, containing no break at any point, whether the narration is Marfū‘ (attributed to the Prophet ﷺ), Mawqūf (attributed to a Companion), or Maqṭū‘ (attributed to a Tābi‘ī).
