'Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best companions are those whose number is four, and the best detachment is that whose number is four hundred, and the best army is that whose number is four thousand, and an Islamic army of twelve thousand will not be defeated due to small numbers." Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- This hadith is Hasan Gharib,
2- Except for Jarir bin Hazim, no major hadith scholar has narrated this hadith with a connected chain; Zuhri has narrated it from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as Mursal,
4- This hadith has been narrated by Hibban bin Ali Al-Anzi with the chain «عقيل عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله عن ابن عباس عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» , and also by Laith bin Sa'd with the chain «عقيل عن الزهري عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» as Mursal.
