Discussion on Charities
Warning Against Taking Back Charity
Hadith Number: 285
And with the same chain of narration (it is narrated) from Aslam that I heard Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I gave a horse in charity in the way of Allah, but the person who had it wasted it (by making it weak), then I intended to buy it back from him because I thought he would sell it cheaply. Then I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "Do not buy it, even if he gives it to you for only one dirham, because the one who takes back his charity is like a dog that licks its own vomit."

And with this same chain (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, gave a very fine horse in charity in the way of Allah. Then he saw that the horse was being sold, so he intended to buy it. Then he asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about it. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not buy it, and do not take back your charity."
