Discussion on Charities
Give Priority to Relatives in Charity
Hadith Number: 287
And with this same chain of narration, it is narrated that (Sayyiduna) Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Among the Ansar of Madinah, (Sayyiduna) Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, was the wealthiest, as he had date orchards, and among them, the garden of Birha’ was the most beloved to him, which was in front of the mosque. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to go into this (garden) and drink its sweet water. Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: When this verse was revealed « لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ» [ آل عمران: 92] “You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love,”Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! Allah says in His Book: « لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ» and among my wealth, Birha’ (the garden) is the most beloved to me, and now it is charity for Allah; I hope that it will be a source of goodness and treasure for me with Allah. O Messenger of Allah! Use it as you wish. He said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:“Wonderful! This is profitable wealth, this is profitable wealth. I have heard what you have said, and I think you should spend it among your relatives.”So Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah! I will do so. Then Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, distributed it among his relatives and the children of his uncle.
