Showing off is minor shirk

-" إن اخوف ما اخاف عليكم الشرك الاصغر، قالوا: وما الشرك الاصغر؟ قال الرياء، يقول الله عز وجل لاصحاب ذلك يوم القيامة إذا جازى الناس: اذهبوا إلى الذين كنتم تراءون في الدنيا، فانظروا هل تجدون عندهم جزاء؟!".
Sayyiduna Mahmud bin Labid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What I fear most for you is minor shirk." The Companions asked: What is minor shirk? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is showing off. On the Day of Resurrection, when Allah Almighty will recompense people, He will say to those who showed off: Go to those for whom you used to show off in the world and see if you find any reward with them."
