Narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The chief of supplications for forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar) is this: «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ» O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant. And I am upon Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me, and I confess my sins, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. Whoever says these words sincerely in the evening and dies that night will enter Paradise. Or he said:“He will be among the people of Paradise. And whoever says it in the morning and dies that day, then the same reward applies.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: We used to count in one gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he would recite this supplication one hundred times: «رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ» "O my Lord! Forgive me and accept my repentance, surely You are the Most Accepting of repentance, Most Merciful."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Duha prayer, then kept reciting this supplication: «اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي، وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ» "O Allah, forgive me and accept my repentance, surely You are the Most Accepting of repentance, the Most Merciful." He recited this supplication one hundred times.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي، لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ.» "The chief of supplications for forgiveness is for a servant to say: 'O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I am upon Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I confess my sins to You, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.' Whoever says these words during the day with firm belief in them and dies before evening, he will be among the people of Paradise. And whoever says them at night with firm belief in them and dies before morning, he will be among the people of Paradise."

Agharr, a companion from the Juhaina tribe, reports to Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Turn to Allah in repentance, for indeed I repent to Him one hundred times every day."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin 'Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whoever recites the following tasbihat, which are mentioned ahead and behind, will never be deprived. They are: «سبحان الله، الحمد لله، لا إله إلا الله، الله أكبر» , one hundred times. Ibn Abi Anisah (may Allah have mercy on him) and 'Amr bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) have narrated this as marfu'.
