Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was sleeping in the (Prophet’s) mosque when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and, alerting me with his blessed foot, said: Do I not see you sleeping here? I replied: O Messenger of Allah! My eyes had become heavy with sleep.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I used to sleep in the Prophet’s Mosque because I had neither wife nor children. I saw in a dream as if I was taken to a well in which men were hanging. It was said: Take them to the right side (i.e., towards the people of Paradise). I narrated this dream to (my sister) Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) and requested her to mention it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So she mentioned it to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Who saw this dream?”She replied: (My brother) Ibn Umar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“What an excellent young man he is,”or he said:“What an excellent man he is, if only he would pray at night.”Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When I slept, I would not get up before Fajr. The narrator said: After that, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) began to pray Tahajjud.
