It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah An-Najm, he performed sajdah (prostration) at the verse of sajdah, and all the people present there performed sajdah except for one old man who took a handful of sand and pebbles, placed them on his forehead, and said: "This is sufficient for me (instead of performing sajdah)." (It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim: Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw that this person died in a state of disbelief.)
