From the Book of the Two Eids
باب صَلاَةِ الْعِيدَيْنِ بِلاَ أَذَانٍ وَلاَ إِقَامَةٍ وَالصَّلاَةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ:
Chapter: Eid prayer without call or iqamah, and prayer before the sermon
Hadith Number: 1641
اخبرنا يعلى، حدثنا عبد الملك، عن عطاء، عن جابر، قال:"شهدت الصلاة مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في يوم عيد، فبدا بالصلاة قبل الخطبة بغير اذان ولا إقامة".
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I attended the prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Eid, so he performed the prayer before the sermon without any call to prayer (adhan) or iqamah.

Hadith Number: 1642
حدثنا محمد بن يوسف، حدثني ابن عيينة، حدثني ايوب السختياني، قال: سمعت عطاء يقول: سمعت ابن عباس، يقول:"اشهد على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم انه بدا بالصلاة قبل الخطبة يوم العيد، ثم خطب فرئي انه لم يسمع النساء فاتاهن، فذكرهن ووعظهن، وامرهن ان يتصدقن، وبلال قابض بثوبه، فجعلت المراة تجيء بالخرص والشيء، ثم تلقيه في ثوب بلال".
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I bear witness that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) begin with the prayer before the sermon on the day of Eid, then he delivered the sermon. It was thought that the women had not heard it, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to them, admonished and advised them, and ordered them to give charity. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding out his garment, and the women would bring gold and silver jewelry and keep putting it in Sayyiduna Bilal’s (may Allah be pleased with him) garment.

اخبرنا ابو عاصم، عن ابن جريج، اخبرنا الحسن بن مسلم، عن طاوس، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه، قال:"شهدت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وابا بكر، وعمر، وعثمان يصلون قبل الخطبة في العيد".
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I used to attend Eid with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), and all of them would perform the prayer before the sermon on Eid.
