باب قَوْلِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ في الْجَدِّ:
Chapter on Abu Bakr's opinion regarding the grandfather
Hadith Number: 2937
حدثنا محمد بن يوسف، حدثنا سفيان، عن ايوب السختياني، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن رجل من مراد، سمع عليا، يقول: "من سره ان يتقحم جراثيم جهنم، فليقض بين الجد والإخوة.
Abu Nazrah narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ikrimah narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that they considered the grandfather in the position of the father.

Hadith Number: 2938
اخبرنا مسلم بن إبراهيم، حدثنا وهيب، حدثنا خالد، عن ابي نضرة، عن ابي سعيد الخدري.
ح وعن عكرمة: ان ابا بكر الصديق "جعل الجد ابا". [إسناده جيد]
حدثنا محمد بن يوسف، حدثنا سفيان، عن سليمان الشيباني، عن كردوس، عن ابى بردة، عن ابي موسى: ان ابا بكر الصديق جعل الجد ابا.
ح وعن عكرمة: ان ابا بكر الصديق "جعل الجد ابا". [إسناده جيد]
حدثنا محمد بن يوسف، حدثنا سفيان، عن سليمان الشيباني، عن كردوس، عن ابى بردة، عن ابي موسى: ان ابا بكر الصديق جعل الجد ابا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the grandfather the status of the father.

Hadith Number: 2939
حدثنا احمد بن عبد الله، حدثنا ابو شهاب، عن الشيباني، عن ابي بردة بن ابي موسى، عن كردوس، عن ابي موسى، ان ابا بكر "جعل الجد ابا".
With this chain also, a narration similar to the previous one is reported from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadith Number: 2940
اخبرنا الاسود بن عامر، حدثنا شعبة، عن عمرو بن مرة، عن ابي بردة، عن مروان، عن عثمان: ان ابا بكر كان "يجعل الجد ابا".
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) in the same manner as previously mentioned.

With this chain also, there is a narration from Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) similar to the previous one, that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the grandfather the status of the father.

Hadith Number: 2942
اخبرنا الاسود بن عامر، حدثنا شعبة، عن عمرو بن مرة، عن ابي بردة، قال: لقيت مروان بن الحكم بالمدينة، فقال: يا ابن ابي موسى، الم اخبر ان الجد لا ينزل فيكم منزلة الاب، وانت لا تنكر؟ قال: قلت: ولو كنت انت لم تنكر، قال مروان: فانا اشهد على عثمان بن عفان انه شهد على ابي بكر انه "جعل الجد ابا، إذا لم يكن دونه اب".
Abu Burdah said: I met Marwan bin Al-Hakam in Madinah, and he said: O son of our master Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him)! Shall I not inform you that, according to you, the grandfather does not take the place of the father, and you do not refute this? Abu Burdah said: I replied: You also do not do so. Marwan replied: I bear witness that our master Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that our master Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) considered the grandfather in the place of the father in the absence of the father.

Hadith Number: 2943
حدثنا الاسود بن عامر، انبانا شعبة، عن خالد الحذاء، عن ابي نضرة، وعن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس: ان ابا بكر كان "يجعل الجد ابا".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the grandfather the status of the father.

Hadith Number: 2944
حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم، حدثنا وهيب، حدثنا ايوب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، قال: جعله الذي قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "لو كنت متخذا احدا خليلا، لاتخذته خليلا، ولكن اخوة الإسلام افضل، يعني ابا بكر جعله ابا، يعني: الجد".
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Regarding whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil), I would have taken him (i.e., Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him) as a close friend, but Islamic brotherhood is superior." He said: Grandfather is like a father.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the grandfather the status of the father.

حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، انبانا الاشعث، عن الحسن، قال: إن الجد قد مضت سنته، وإن ابا بكر "جعل الجد ابا"، ولكن الناس تحيروا.
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Sunnah regarding the grandfather has been established that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the grandfather the status of the father, but (today) people have adopted a different opinion.
