Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would send out an army, he would say:“Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not be treacherous, do not deceive, and do not be cowardly. Do not kill any child, nor any woman, nor any elderly person. And when you besiege a fortress or a town, do not give them the guarantee of Allah and His Messenger, but give them your own guarantee and the guarantee of your fathers, for if you violate your own guarantee or that of your fathers, it is better than violating the guarantee of Allah and His Messenger.”
