It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Huwairith that we, a group of young men who were almost of the same age, came to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and stayed with him for twenty nights. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was very kind and soft-hearted. He sensed that we were longing to meet our families, so he asked us whom we had left behind at home. We informed him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Now return to your families, stay with them, teach them, and inform them. When the time for prayer comes, one person should give the call to prayer (adhan), and the eldest among you should lead the prayer.

Abu Qilabah says that once Abu Sulayman Malik bin Huwayrith came to our mosque and said, "I will show you how to pray; the purpose is not to pray, but to show you how the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray." So, in the first rak'ah, after raising his head from the second prostration, he sat for a while and then stood up.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Huwairith that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raising his hands while lifting his head from bowing, while going into prostration, and while lifting his head from prostration, until he would bring his hands up to the level of his earlobes.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Huwairith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him and one of his companions: When the time for prayer comes, give the adhan and say the iqamah, and the one who is the eldest among you should lead the prayer.

Abu Atiyyah says that once Sayyiduna Malik bin Huwairith came to our mosque. The prayer was established, so the people requested him to lead the prayer, but he refused and said, "Let someone from among you lead the prayer. Afterwards, I will narrate a hadith to you." After the prayer was finished, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a person goes to meet someone, he should not lead the prayer; rather, someone from among them should lead the prayer."
