Hadith of Rabi'ah ibn Ka'b al-Aslami
Hadith Number: 16574
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) that I used to sleep in the blessed chamber of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I used to hear that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up for prayer, he would say“Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin”for a long time, then he would say“Subhanallahi Al-‘Azim wa bihamdihi”for a long time.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that I used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me:“Rabi’ah! Why don’t you get married?”I replied:“O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I do not wish to get married because, firstly, I do not have enough to fulfill a woman’s needs, and secondly, I do not like anything that would keep me away from you.”Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned away from me, and I continued to serve him. After some time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again said to me:“Rabi’ah! Why don’t you get married?”I gave the same answer as before, but then I began to think in my heart that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) knows better than I do what is good for me in this world and the Hereafter. So, if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) says it again, I will say, ‘Alright, O Messenger of Allah! Command me as you wish.’
So, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me for the third time,“Rabi’ah, why don’t you get married?”I replied:“Why not! Please command me as you wish.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned the name of a tribe of the Ansar with whom he had a connection and said:“Go to them and say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has sent me to you and has commanded that you marry me to such-and-such woman.”So I went to them and conveyed the message of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). They welcomed me and said:“The Messenger of Allah’s envoy will not leave without completing his task.”So they married me to that woman and treated me with great kindness, not even asking me for witnesses.
After returning from there, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) feeling sad. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Rabi’ah! What happened to you?”I replied:“O Messenger of Allah! I went to a noble people, they married me, honored me, treated me kindly, and did not even ask me for witnesses. (To give a woman of such noble people) I do not even have a dowry.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Buraydah:“O Buraydah Aslami! Collect gold equal to the weight of a date stone for him.”They collected it, and I brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Take this gold to those people and tell them that this is the dowry for the girl.”So I went to them and said:“This is her dowry.”They accepted it gladly and said:“It is plenty and pure (lawful).”
A little while later, I again returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) feeling sad. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Rabi’ah! Why are you sad now?”I replied:“O Messenger of Allah! I have never seen people more noble than them. Whatever I gave them, they were pleased with it and praised it, saying it is plenty and pure (lawful). I have nothing to serve as a wedding feast (walimah) for such people.”So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again said to Sayyiduna Buraydah:“Bring a goat for him.”So he brought a very healthy and large ram. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me:“Go to Aisha and tell her to give the bag in which the grain is kept.”So I went to her and conveyed the message of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She said:“Here is the bag; it contains nine sa’ of barley, and by Allah! We have nothing else besides this. Take it.”So I took the bag and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and conveyed Aisha’s message. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Take these two things to those people and tell them to make bread from it.”So I went to them and took the ram with me. Some people from the tribe of Aslam were with me. When I reached there, I told them:“Make bread from this flour and cook the meat of this ram.”They said:“We will take care of the bread, and you take care of the ram.”So I and my companions caught the ram, slaughtered it, skinned it, and began to cook it. In this way, the bread and...

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Ask, I will grant you. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Give me some time to think. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You may think it over. I thought that the life of this world will pass away anyway, so I did not find anything better for myself than the Hereafter. Thus, I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is your need? I said: O Messenger of Allah! Please intercede with your Lord for me so that He grants me a certificate of freedom from Hell. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who told you this? I said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, no one explained this to me, but I myself reflected on my situation that the world is even taken away from the people of the world, so I thought to make a request for the Hereafter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then help me by increasing your prostrations.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) that I used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and would remain engaged in his work all day long. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would offer the ‘Isha prayer and go to his house, I would sit at his door and think that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) might need something. I would continuously hear the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying“Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi”until I would get tired and return or fall asleep due to drowsiness. Once, seeing my service and how I was exhausting myself, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me:“Ask, I will grant you.”I said:“O Messenger of Allah!
