It is narrated from Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed me as the commander over the army of Dhat al-Salasil. I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) Who is the most beloved to you among the people?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Aisha." I asked, "Among the men?" He said, "Her father." I asked, "Then who?" He said, "Umar." In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the names of several men.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this incident was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Amr! Did you lead your companions in prayer while you were in a state of impurity?" I submitted, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The night when ghusl became obligatory upon me, it was an extremely cold night and I feared that if I performed ghusl, I would perish. And I remembered the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.' So I performed tayammum and offered the prayer." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and did not say anything.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) I pledge allegiance to you on the condition that all my previous sins are forgiven." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Islam wipes out all the sins that came before it, and migration also wipes out all the sins that came before it." He says that I was more modest before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) than anyone else, so I never looked at him with full eyes, nor did I ever argue with him in my desires, until he met Allah, the Exalted.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man presented himself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) Which deed is the most virtuous?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Faith and affirmation in Allah, striving in the path of Allah, and an accepted Hajj." That man said, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) You have mentioned many things." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then gentle speech, feeding others, being easy-going, and good character are the most virtuous deeds." He said, "I only want to know one thing." The Prophet said, "Then go and do not let yourself be accused of anything."

He was extremely disinterested in the world, while you love and desire the world greatly. By Allah, there was never a night in the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in which his financial burden was not greater than his financial abundance, and some of the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say that we ourselves saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taking loans."
