It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a lizard was hunted and brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned the lizard over and examined it, and said: "The forms of some communities were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is one of them."

We hunted a lizard, and people began to cook and roast it. I also took a lizard, roasted it, and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and placed it before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned it over with a stick and said, "A form of one of the animals among the Children of Israel was transformed; I do not know which animal it was." I submitted, "People are roasting and eating it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither ate it himself nor forbade others from eating it.
