Hadith of Jabir ibn Sulaym al-Hujaymi (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 20632
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Salim that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was sitting with his companions. I asked, "Who among you is the Prophet (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) either pointed to himself or the people indicated by gesture. At that time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was sitting wrapped in a sheet, the corner (end) of which had come to his feet. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I want to ask you about some things, and since I am a villager, there may be some harshness in my questioning, so please teach me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Fear Allah and do not consider any good deed insignificant, even if it is dropping a few drops of water from your bucket into the vessel of one who asks for water. Avoid arrogance, for arrogance is not liked by Allah. And if someone abuses you or taunts you with something he knows about you, do not taunt him with something you know about him, for this will be a source of reward for you and a source of burden for him. And do not abuse anyone." (After this, I never abused any human, goat, or even a camel.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I want to ask you about some things, and since I am a villager, there may be some harshness in my questioning, so please teach me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Fear Allah and do not consider any good deed insignificant, even if that good deed is to drop a few drops of water from your bucket into the vessel of someone asking for water. Avoid arrogance, for arrogance is not liked by Allah. And if someone abuses you or taunts you with something he knows about you, do not taunt him with something you know about him, for this will be a source of reward for you and a source of burden for him. It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I want to ask you about some things..." Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith and said, "Do not taunt him with something you know about him, for this will be a source of reward for you and a source of burden for him."

‘Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Sallam narrated to us, ‘Aqil ibn Talhah narrated to us, from Abu Jurayy al-Hujaymi, that he came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with some people from the desert, and they said:“We are from the people of the desert.”Then he mentioned the hadith, except that he said:“So do not insult him for what you know about him, for the reward of that is for you and its burden is upon him.”

It is narrated from a Companion that once I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) when a man came and addressing the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Are you the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "Yes." He asked, "What do you invite towards?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I invite towards Allah, Who is One. Tell me, who is that Being that when a calamity befalls you, He removes your calamity? Who is He that when you are afflicted with drought and you supplicate to Him, He brings forth produce? Who is He that when you lose your way in a desolate wilderness and you supplicate to Him, He brings you back?" Hearing this, he became Muslim and said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not abuse anyone." He says that after that, I did not even abuse a camel or a goat since the Prophet (peace be upon him) advised me. "And do not show aversion to any good deed, even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face while talking, or pouring water from your bucket into the vessel of one who asks for water. And tie your lower garment up to half the shin; if you cannot do this, then up to the ankles, but avoid letting the lower garment hang down, for this is arrogance, and Allah does not like arrogance."
