Muhammad bin Khalid narrates from his grandfather, "who had the honor of companionship with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)," that one day he set out with the intention of meeting a Muslim brother. On the way, he learned that his brother was ill, so he went to him and said, 'I have come to you for meeting, for visiting the sick, and to give you glad tidings.' He asked, 'How did all these things come together at one place?' He replied, 'When I set out, my intention was to meet you. On the way, I heard news of your illness, so by coming here, visiting the sick was fulfilled. As for the glad tidings, it is that I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: When a servant's rank with Allah reaches a level beyond what his deeds can attain, Allah afflicts him with a trial in his body, wealth, or children, then grants him patience over it, until he reaches the rank that has been decreed for him.'"
