Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man found a treasure, so regarding it the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you found it in a residential area, then you should keep announcing it. But if you found it in the ruins of the pre-Islamic era, or in a non-residential area, or on a path away from the common thoroughfare, then in that case, payment of 'khums' (one-fifth) will be obligatory on it, just as it is on 'rikaz' (buried treasure)."
