Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a silk (i.e., made of silk) cloak being sold by a man named ‘Atarid, and he expressed dislike for it and forbade its use. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a similar cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: O Messenger of Allah! Regarding the cloak of ‘Atarid, you said such-and-such, and now you are giving this to me to wear. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I did not give it to you so that you may wear it; I gave it to you so that you may give it to women to wear!”
