Actions in supplication
Hadith Number: 505
حدثني حدثني يحيى، عن مالك، عن عبد الله بن دينار ، قال: " رآني عبد الله بن عمر وانا ادعو، واشير باصبعين صبع من كل يد فنهاني"
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Dinar that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) saw me making supplication while I was gesturing with two fingers, one finger from each hand, so he forbade me.

Hadith Number: 506
وحدثني، عن مالك، عن يحيى بن سعيد ، ان سعيد بن المسيب ، كان يقول:" إن الرجل ليرفع بدعاء ولده من بعده"، وقال بيديه نحو السماء فرفعهما
Saeed bin Musayyib used to say: Indeed, a man's rank is elevated by his son's supplication after his death, and he gestured with both hands towards the heavens and then raised them.

Hadith Number: 507
وحدثني، عن مالك، عن هشام بن عروة ، عن ابيه ، انه قال:" إنما انزلت هذه الآية: ولا تجهر بصلاتك ولا تخافت بها وابتغ بين ذلك سبيلا في الدعاء"
It is narrated from Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair that this verse «﴿وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا، وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلًا﴾ [الإسراء: 110] » was revealed regarding supplication (dua).

Hadith Number: 507B
قال يحيى: وسئل مالك، عن الدعاء في الصلاة المكتوبة، فقال: لا باس بالدعاء فيها
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about supplicating during obligatory prayer. He said: There is no harm in it.

Hadith Number: 508
وحدثني، عن مالك، انه بلغه، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يدعو فيقول: " اللهم إني اسالك فعل الخيرات، وترك المنكرات، وحب المساكين، وإذا اردت في الناس فتنة فاقبضني إليك غير مفتون"
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: "O Allah! I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abstain from evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You wish to send a trial upon the people, then call me to Yourself, saving me from that trial."

Hadith Number: 509
وحدثني، عن مالك، انه بلغه، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " ما من داع يدعو إلى هدى، إلا كان له مثل اجر من اتبعه لا ينقص ذلك من اجورهم شيئا، وما من داع يدعو إلى ضلالة، إلا كان عليه مثل اوزارهم لا ينقص ذلك من اوزارهم شيئا"
It reached Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever calls towards guidance will have a reward equal to that of those who follow him, without their reward being diminished in the least. And whoever calls towards misguidance will bear a sin equal to that of those who follow him, without their sin being diminished in the least."

Hadith Number: 510
وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، انه بلغه، ان عبد الله بن عمر، قال: " اللهم اجعلني من ائمة المتقين"
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: O Allah! Make me a leader of the God-fearing.

Hadith Number: 511
وحدثني، عن وحدثني، عن مالك، انه بلغه، ان ابا الدرداء كان يقوم من جوف الليل، فيقول: " نامت العيون وغارت النجوم وانت الحي القيوم"
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that when Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) would get up at night, he used to say: "The eyes have slept and the stars have disappeared, and You, O Lord, are Living and Ever-Awake."
