Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“When a person is afflicted by a calamity, and then says as Allah has commanded «﴿إِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ﴾» : ‘O Lord! Reward me in my affliction and grant me better than it in exchange,’ then Allah, by His grace, will do just that for him.”Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When my husband passed away, I recited this supplication, and then I thought to myself: Who could be better than Abu Salama? So Allah gave me in exchange that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) that my wife passed away, so Muhammad bin Ka'b Qurazi came to offer me condolences and said: Among the Children of Israel, there was a man who was a jurist, a scholar, a devout worshipper, and a diligent striver, and he had a wife whom he was extremely fond of and loved very much. By chance, that woman died, and the man was greatly grieved and deeply saddened. He shut himself in a house, closed the door, and stopped meeting people, so no one would go to him. A woman heard this story and came to his door and said: I have a question to ask, and I will only ask him; this cannot be done without meeting him. So, all the other people who had come left, but that woman remained at the door and said that there is no solution except to settle this with him. So, someone went inside and informed him, saying that a woman has come to ask you a question, and she says she wants to meet you. All the people left, but that woman would not leave the door. Then the man said: All right, let her come in. So the woman came to him and said: I have come to ask you a question. He said: What is the question? The woman said: I had borrowed some jewelry from a woman in my neighborhood, and I wore it for a period of time and lent it to others who asked for it. Now that woman has asked for her jewelry back; should I return it to her? The man said: Yes, by Allah, return it. The woman said: That jewelry has been with me for a long time. The man said: Because of that, it is even more necessary for you to return it, because she lent it to you for a period of time. The woman said: O so-and-so! May Allah have mercy on you, why do you grieve over something that Allah, Glorious and Exalted, had lent to you and then took back from you? Allah, Glorious and Exalted, has more right over it than you. When the man reflected and Allah Almighty benefited him through the words of the woman.
