It is narrated from Urwah bin Zubair that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked: Bedouins bring meat to us and we do not know whether they said "Bismillah" at the time of slaughter or not. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Say 'Bismillah' and eat it."

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: This hadith is from the early period of Islam.

It is narrated from Yahya bin Saeed that Abdullah bin Ayyash ordered his servant to slaughter an animal. When he was about to slaughter it, Abdullah said: Say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah). The servant said: I have said it. Then Abdullah said: Say "Bismillah", woe to you. The servant said: I have said it. Abdullah said: By Allah! I will never eat this meat.
