Chapter 40: Permission for women to go out at night to relieve themselves in the open
Hadith Number: 54
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says that Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a woman of heavy build. When she would go out at night to relieve herself, (due to her tall stature) she would be distinguished among the women. (One day) Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her and said,“Consider carefully how you go out (from the house). By Allah, when you go out, you are not hidden from us.”Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (He was eating food) and there was a bone in his hand. The revelation was completed before he had even put the bone down from his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Allah has permitted you to go out (of your house) for your needs.”
