Chapter 96: Permissibility of ablution from glass vessels
Hadith Number: Q124
Contrary to the statement of this Sufi who thinks that using glass utensils is extravagance because clay utensils are stronger and more durable than glass utensils.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water for ablution, so a bowl of water was brought to him. The narrator says: I think he said that a glass bowl was brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his fingers in it (and water began to gush forth from his fingers like a spring), so people started performing ablution one after another. I estimated their number and they were about seventy to eighty. I kept looking at the water as if it was bubbling out from between his fingers. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that several narrators have narrated this hadith from Hammad bin Zaid, and they have stated the word «رحراح» "wide vessel" instead of «الزجاج» "glass vessel" without any doubt. The Imam says that Muhammad bin Yahya narrated this hadith to us from Abu Nu'man, and he from Hamas. In the narration of Sulaiman bin Harith, it is: «اُتِیَ بِقَدحِ زُجَاجِ» "A glass bowl was brought to you." And in the narration of Abu Nu'man, it is: "A glass vessel was brought." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that «رحراح» refers to a wide glass vessel, and a deep one is not called «رحراح» .
