Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was unable to walk due to pain or discomfort in his leg, so we went to visit him. We found him sitting in his blessed chamber in front of the upper room. He says that then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer while sitting, and we prayed standing behind him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer, he said: "When I lead the prayer sitting, you should also pray sitting, and when I lead the prayer standing, you should also pray standing, and do not stand around me in the manner that the Persians stand with folded hands for their chiefs and kings."
