Umar bin Ata says that Nafi’ bin Jubair sent me to ask a question to Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid. I asked him, and he replied: Yes, I performed Jumu’ah prayer in the mihrab with Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). When he finished the prayer with salam, I stood up and began to pray. He sent a person to call me. So I went to him, and he said: When you have performed the Jumu’ah prayer, do not join any other prayer with it before speaking or leaving from there, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded this. In the narration of Ibn Rafi’ and Abdur Rahman, the words are: It has been commanded that one prayer should not be joined with another until you have spoken or left from there. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Umar bin Ata bin Abi Khawar is a trustworthy narrator. As for the other Umar bin Ata, our companions among the hadith scholars have criticized his narrations due to his weak memory, and Ibn Jurayj has narrated from both of them.
