جُمَّاعُ أَبْوَابِ صَدَقَةِ التَّطَوُّعِ
Chapters on Voluntary Charity
(148) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا فَضَّلَ صَدَقَةَ الْمُقِلِّ إِذَا كَانَ فَضْلًا عَمَّنْ يَعُولُ، وَلَا إِذَا تَصَدَّقَ عَلَى الْأَبَاعِدِ وَتَرَكَ مَنْ يَعُولُ جِيَاعًا
148 Subchapter: Prophet favored charity of the poor if surplus to dependents, not if given to strangers while dependents are left hungry
Hadith Number: 2451
حدثنا عيسى بن إبراهيم الغافقي ، حدثنا ابن وهب ، عن الليث ، ان ابا الزبير ، حدثه. ح وحدثنا عمرو بن علي ، حدثنا ابو الوليد، حدثنا الليث بن سعد ، عن ابي الزبير ، عن يحيى بن جعدة ، عن ابي هريرة ، انه قال: يا رسول الله، اي الصدقة افضل؟ قال:" جهد المقل، وابدا بمن تعول"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he asked: O Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ), which charity is the best? The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) replied: "The charity given by a person of little means from his hard-earned money is the best, and begin by spending on those whose maintenance is your responsibility."

Hadith Number: 2452
حدثنا احمد بن منيع ، حدثنا ابن علية ، اخبرنا ايوب ، عن ابي الزبير ، عن جابر ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم , قال: " إذا كان احدكم فقيرا، فليبدا بنفسه، فإن كان فضلا فعلى عياله، فإن كان فضلا فعلى قرابته او ذي رحمه، فإن كان فضلا فها هنا وهاهنا"
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "When any one of you is in need and poor, he should first spend on himself. Then if any wealth remains, he should spend on his family. If wealth still remains, he should spend it on his close relatives. If after that there is still surplus wealth, he should distribute it among the needy here and there."
