Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) was married to Hazrat Zubair bin Awam (may Allah be pleased with him). He was a man who was strict with women, because of which she disliked him. She demanded divorce from Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) while she was pregnant, but he refused. When her labor pains began, she strongly insisted on a divorce. Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) was performing ablution, so he gave her one divorce. When he came out, someone informed him that Hazrat Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) had given birth to the child. Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "May Allah ruin her, she has deceived me!" Then he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and presented the matter to him. The Prophet said, "The Book of Allah has prevailed; you may send her a marriage proposal." Hazrat Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Now she will never return to my marriage."
