Hazrat Shurayh did not consider it objectionable that 'Ata was sold in exchange for goods. Hazrat Sha'bi did not consider it absolutely disliked.

22242 - He said: And Al-Sha'bi said: It is not to be bought (with goods) (1) nor with anything else.

According to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), the sale of 'Ata' (unmeasured produce) other than goods is disliked.

Sha'bi was asked about selling with an increase in 'Ataa (stipend), so he replied: I neither command it nor forbid it; I prevent myself and my children from it. The leaders of the Muslims have done it, and they were better than me.

Bakr bin Uthman narrates that I used to sell the excess of payment (ziyada) in exchange for silk and dirhams in Khurasan. One year I performed Hajj and asked Hazrat Salim about this matter, and he replied that there is no harm in it if it is with goods. However, I consider it disliked with dirhams. Hazrat Muhammad bin Ka'b and Hazrat Ata also gave the same answer. I also asked Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin, and they said that we consider it disliked with dirhams, but there is no harm if it is with goods.

22246 - And I asked Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, and he said: The same.

22247 - And I asked Ata, and he said: The same.

22248 - I asked Al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin, and they said: We dislike it (with dirhams) (1) and see (2) no harm in it with goods.

Hasan and Muhammad say that you can sell it along with the goods.
