It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Amr al-Shaibani that he says Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) saw some dirhams with a man, so he asked, "What will you do with these dirhams?" The man said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman! These are thirty dirhams, and my intention is to buy ghee with them for the month of Ramadan." Hazrat Ibn Masood asked, "Will you put this ghee in a small dish and then eat it?" The man said, "Yes." He said, "Go and give these dirhams to your wife and tell her to buy meat with one dirham every day; this is better for you."

Hazrat A’mash narrates from his transmitter that Hazrat Jabir passed by Hazrat Umar, and he had some meat with him which he had bought for one dirham. The narrator says that Hazrat Umar asked him,“What is this?”He replied,“I bought it for one dirham.”Hazrat Umar said,“Do you buy whatever you desire whenever you feel like it? Do not be among those people who are described in this verse: ‘You have exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life.’”

It is narrated from Hazrat Hamzah bin Abdullah that half a dirham's worth of meat used to come to Hasan every day.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abi Salamah that he says Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz used to prepare food (for those) who were present with him, but Hazrat Umar did not eat from it, so the people also did not eat. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz asked, "What has happened to you that these people are not eating?" The people informed him that since you did not eat, they also did not eat. So he ordered that, from his personal wealth, one dirham be spent daily for cooking, then he also ate the food and the other people also ate.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ishaq that he says Hazrat Sha'bi used to buy meat worth one dirham every Friday.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ishaq that he says Hazrat Umar said: Three dirhams' worth of meat is sufficient for a household in a month.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Rabee’ah that he said: Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had two wives, so he used to buy half a dirham’s worth of meat for one and half a dirham’s worth of meat for the other every day.
