Hazrat Hiyy bin Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "This is the person who attacked me." So Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) handed that man over to him. Those people struck him severely with their swords until they thought they had killed him, although there was still some life left in him. Then his family took him and treated him until he recovered. Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said, "Did I not hand him over to you?" So he informed you about him. Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) called him and found marks of wounds on his body, and his wounds had turned white. Then those people wanted to take blood money for him, so Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said to that person, "If you wish, pay him his blood money and kill him, otherwise leave him and do not kill him." So that person met Hazrat Umar and sought help from him against Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him), but both Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) agreed with the decision of Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) that the survivor should first be paid blood money and then be killed, or he should be left and not killed. And Hazrat Umar said to Hazrat Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him), "Indeed, you are a judge." Then he sent them back to their work.
