Regarding How Many Grandmothers Can Inherit

٣٣٣٩٩ - حدثنا وكيع قال حدثنا سفيان عن منصور عن إبراهيم قال: اطعم النبي ﷺ ثلاث جدات (١).

(١) مرسل؛ إبراهيم تابعي، أخرجه الدارمي (٢٩٣٥)، وعبد الرزاق (١٩٠٧٩)، والدارقطني ٤/ ٩١، والبيهقي ٦/ ٢٣٦، وسعيد ١/ (٩١)، وأبو داود في المراسيل (٣٥٥).
Ibrahim narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted wealth to three grandmothers. The narrator says: I asked Ibrahim, "Who are they?" He replied: The father's mother, the maternal grandmother, and the deceased's maternal grandmother.

33400 - He said: I said to Ibrahim: Who? He said: (Two grandmothers from his father's side and one grandmother from his mother's side) (1).

٣٣٤٠١ - حدثنا معتمر عن برد عن مكحول قال: يرث من الجدات ثلاثة، (واقعد الجدات في) (١) النسب احقهن بالسدس.

It is narrated from Bard that Hazrat Mak'hool says: Three grandmothers are heirs, and among them, the one who is the lowest in lineage is entitled to the largest share of one-sixth of the wealth.

٣٣٤٠٢ - حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن داود عن عامر قال: إذا اجتمع اربع جدات لم يرث (ام ابي الام) (١).

Dawood narrates that Hazrat Aamir said: When four grandmothers are gathered, the maternal grandmother will not be an heir.

٣٣٤٠٣ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا الاعمش عن إبراهيم عن ابن مسعود قال: يرث ثلاث (جدات) (١): جدتان (من (قبل) (٢) الاب وجدة من قبل الام) (٣) (٤).

(٢) في [ب]: (قبيل).
(٣) في [أ، س]: (من قبل الأم، وجدة من قبل الأب).
(٤) منقطع؛ إبراهيم لم يدرك ابن مسعود.
It is narrated from Ibrahim that Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Three grandmothers are heirs: two grandmothers from the mother's side and one grandmother from the father's side.

٣٣٤٠٤ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن حماد بن سلمة عن ليث عن طاوس عن ابن عباس قال: (ترث) (١) الجدات الاربع جميعا (٢).

(٢) ضعيف؛ لضعف ليث.
Tawoos narrates the statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that all four grandmothers are heirs.

٣٣٤٠٥ - حدثنا ابن علية عن سهم (الفرائضي) (١) قال: كان جابر بن زيد يورث اربع جدات.

Sahm Faraizi says that Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) used to make four grandmothers heirs.

٣٣٤٠٦ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن هشام عن الحسن سئل عن اربع جدات فقال: يرث منهن ثلاث، و (تلغى) (١) ام ابي الام.

Hisham reports from Hasan Basri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about four grandmothers, so he said that three of them will inherit and the mother’s grandmother will not inherit.

٣٣٤٠٧ - حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن هشام عن محمد انه كان يورث تسع جدات ويقول: إذا كانت إحدى الجدات اقرب فهو لها دونهم.
Hisham Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that he used to make nine grandmothers heirs and said that when any grandmother is closer (in relation), then the wealth will go to her only and the remaining grandmothers will not receive it.

٣٣٤٠٨ - حدثنا عبد الاعلى عن يونس (عن الحسن) (١) انه كان يورث ثلاث جدات ويقول: ايتهن كانت اقرب فهو لها دون الاخرى، فإذا (استوتا) (٢) فهو بينهما.

Yunus Hasan narrates that you used to make three grandmothers heirs and said that among them, the one who is closest will be given the wealth, not the other grandmothers, and when the grandmothers are of equal degree, the wealth will be distributed among them.
