Hazrat Iyas bin Salamah narrates from his father that during the days of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, I came to Madinah with the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then (once) I and the slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Rabah, went out. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Rabah with the camels, and I went out with him, taking Hazrat Talhah’s horse, and I kept urging the horse along with the camels. When the darkness of the morning was still there, Abdur Rahman bin Uyainah attacked the camels of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and killed the camel herder. And those horsemen who were with him took away the camels. I said,“O Rabah! Mount this horse and take it to Hazrat Talhah, and inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that they have been attacked.”
2. Salamah says: Then I stood on a hillock and turned my face towards Madinah and called out three times,“Ya Sabahah!”After that, I set out after those people. I had my sword and arrows with me. So I started shooting arrows at them and began to wound and stop them. And this would happen when there were many trees… He says: When any horseman would come towards me, I would sit behind a tree and then shoot arrows. Thus, no horseman would advance towards me except that I would wound and stop him. I kept showering arrows upon them and would say,“I am Ibn al-Akwa‘, and today is the day of the destruction of the disgraced ones.”
3. Then I reached a man, so I shot an arrow at him while he was on his mount. My arrow struck the man until it became embedded in his shoulder. I said,“Catch him! And I am Ibn al-Akwa‘, and today is the day of the destruction of the disgraced ones.”
4. When I was among the trees (in the thicket), I would shoot arrows at them profusely, and when the valleys became narrow, I would climb the mountain and throw stones at them. This continued between me and them, that I kept running after them and reciting rajaz poetry, until whatever Allah Almighty had created among the mounts of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I left all of it behind me and rescued it from the attackers.
5. Salamah says: So I kept shooting arrows at them until I made them drop more than thirty spears and more than thirty cloaks, which they considered light (worthless). Whatever they threw away, I would place stones upon it and gather it on the path of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Until when it was forenoon, ‘Uyainah bin Badr al-Fazari came to the aid of the attackers, and these people were in a narrow valley. I climbed the mountain, so I became higher than them. ‘Uyainah said,“What is this that I am seeing?”The attackers replied,“This calamity has clung to us. Since morning, he has not left us. Whatever we had, he has taken from us and left it behind him.”Upon this, ‘Uyainah said,“If he did not expect any pursuit (reinforcements) from behind, he would have left you.”‘Uyainah said,“A group from among you should rise towards him (to fight).”So a group of four men rose towards me. They started climbing the mountain. When they came near my voice, I said to them,“Do you know me?”They asked,“Who are you?”I replied,“I am Ibn al-Akwa‘. By the One Who honored the face of Muhammad, none of you can catch me if he wants, and whoever I want to catch, he cannot escape.”One of them said,“I think the same.”
6. Salamah says: Then I remained sitting in my place until I saw the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) among the trees, with Akhram Asadi at their front, and behind him was the horseman of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Qatadah, and behind Abu Qatadah was Miqdad Kindi. Salamah says: So the polytheists turned their backs and fled. I descended from the mountain and reached Akhram and took hold of his horse’s bridle. I said,“O Akhram! Beware of these people (i.e., wait for now), for I do not feel secure that they may kill you. So wait until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions reach us.”Akhram said,“O Salamah! If you...

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prayer of fear at the place of Dhi Qarad... in the region of Banu Sulaym... He led the prayer of fear. So the people formed two rows behind him. One row prayed (the first rak'ah) behind him, and one row stood facing the enemy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the row that was with him in one rak'ah of prayer, then these people went to the place of the other row, and those people came to the place of these people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them also in one rak'ah.
