Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When the door is closed and the curtain is drawn, the payment of the dowry becomes obligatory."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a man closes the door and draws the curtain, or looks at the private part of the woman, then the payment of the dowry becomes obligatory upon him."

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a man closes the door and draws the curtain, or looks at the private part of the woman, then the payment of the dowry becomes obligatory upon him."

The same is narrated regarding Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

A similar narration is reported from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a man closes the door and draws the curtain, or sees the private part of the woman, then the payment of the dowry becomes obligatory upon him, and the woman must observe the waiting period (‘iddah), and she is entitled to a share in inheritance."

Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever lifts a woman's veil and looks at her, the payment of the dowry becomes obligatory upon him, whether he has had intercourse with the woman or not."

Sulaiman bin Yasar narrates: Harith bin Hakam married a woman, he closed the door, then he came out of the room and divorced the woman. He stated: "I did not have intercourse with this woman." The woman said: "He did have intercourse with me." They took the case to Marwan, who called Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: "What is your opinion about this? According to us, Harith should be believed." Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "If this woman becomes pregnant, will you stone her?" Marwan replied: "No." Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "In such a situation, the woman's statement will be believed."

According to Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, there is no harm in a person marrying a fifth woman after giving an irrevocable divorce to his (fourth) wife, whether the (divorced woman) is pregnant or not.

Hasan al-Basri, Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, and Khallas ibn 'Amr say: When a man divorces his wife and that woman is also pregnant, then if that man wishes, he can marry the sister of that woman during her 'iddah. Hisham ibn 'Urwah has narrated something similar from his father.
