Saeed bin Musayyib says: I saw Sayyiduna Uthman (RA) in the Maqa'id. He had food cooked on fire brought to him and ate it, then stood up for prayer and began to pray. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (RA) said: I am sitting in the place of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I have eaten the food of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I have led the same prayer as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Muhammad bin Umar says: The day after Friday, I went to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who was in the house of Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyida had bequeathed this house to him. When he would perform the Friday prayer, a mat and so on would be spread for him in this house, so he would go to this house and sit for the people. One day, a man asked him about performing ablution after eating food cooked on fire, while I was listening. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his hand to his eyes, as he had become blind at that time, and said: These eyes of mine have seen, I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution in a chamber, then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called him for prayer and he set out, but when he reached the door of the chamber, a gift of bread and meat was received by him, which a companion had sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned with his companions, the food was laid out in the chamber, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions ate, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out with his companions for prayer, and neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) nor any of his companions touched water, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) witnessed the last practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Umayyah Damri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cutting meat from the shoulder of a goat (with a knife) and eating it. Then when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was called for prayer, he performed the prayer and did not perform ablution. In another narration it is stated: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) was called for prayer, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw away the knife and did not perform ablution.

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) performing ablution. He asked him: Do you know what I am performing ablution because of? He replied: No. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ate pieces of cheese, and because of that I am performing ablution. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I do not care what I perform ablution because of, as long as I testify that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) eat shoulder meat, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution. Sulaiman was present with both of these personalities.
