Chapters on the Description of Prayer
بَابُ مِقْدَارِ الرُّكُوعِ وَصِفَتِهِ وَالطُّمَأْنِينَةِ فِيهِ وَفِي جَمِيعِ الْأَرْكَانِ عَلَى سَوَاءٍ
Chapter on the Amount and Description of Bowing and Tranquility in It and All Pillars Equally
Hadith Number: 1682
حدثنا عبد الله حدثني ابي ثنا عفان ثنا محمد بن عبد الرحمن الطفاوي ثنا سعيد الجريري عن رجل من بني تميم واحسن الثناء عليه عن ابيه او عمه قال: صليت خلف رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم، فسالناه عن قدر ركوعه وسجوده، فقال: قدر ما يقول الرجل سبحان الله وبحمده ثلاثا
A man from Banu Tamim narrates from his father or uncle, who says: I performed prayer following the leadership of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. (Upon hearing this) we asked him about the duration of the bowing (ruku) and prostration (sujud) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: It was such that a person could say three times: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi.

Hadith Number: 1683
(ومن طريق ثان) حدثنا عبد الله حدثني ابي ثنا خلف بن الوليد ثنا خالد عن سعيد الجريري عن السعدي عن ابيه عن عمه قال: رمقت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم في صلاته فكان يمكث في ركوعه وسجوده قدر ما يقول سبحان الله وبحمده ثلاثا
(Hadith with another chain) Their father narrates from their uncle, who says: I closely observed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in prayer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would remain in bowing and prostration for as long as it takes a person to say this phrase three times: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi.

Hadith Number: 1684
عن سعيد بن جبير عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال: ما رايت احدا اشبه صلاة برسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم من هٰذا الغلام يعني عمر بن عبد العزيز، قال: فحزرنا في الركوع عشر تسبيحات وفي السجود عشر تسبيحات
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I have not seen anyone who resembled the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) more in prayer than this young man (i.e., Umar bin Abdul Aziz). Saeed bin Jubair says: We estimated that this young man recited the tasbihat ten times each in his bowing and prostration.

Hadith Number: 1685
عن البراء بن عازب رضي الله عنه قال: كانت صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا صلى فركع، وإذا رفع راسه من الركوع، وإذا سجد، وإذا رفع راسه من السجود، وبين السجدتين قريبا من السواء
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer, his bowing (ruku‘), standing up straight after bowing, prostration (sajdah), and sitting between the two prostrations were all nearly equal in duration. (Sahih Bukhari: 792, Sahih Muslim: 471)

Hadith Number: 1686
حدثنا عبد الله حدثني ابي ثنا يحيى بن سعيد الاموي عن عاصم قال ثنا ابو العالية قال: اخبرني من سمع النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يقول: ((لكل سورة حظها من الركوع والسجود (وفي رواية اعطوا كل سورة حظها من الركوع والسجود))) قال: ثم لقيته بعد فقلت له: إن ابن عمر كان يقرا في الركعة بالسور، فتعرف من حدثك هٰذا الحديث؟ قال: إني لا اعرفه واعرف منذ كم حدثنيه، حدثني منذ خمسين سنة
A companion of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every Surah has its portion from bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajdah). And in another narration: Give every Surah its portion from bowing and prostration. ‘Asim says: Later I met Abu Al-‘Aliyah and said to him: Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite several Surahs in one rak‘ah; do you know who narrated this hadith to you? He said: There is no doubt that I know it, and I even know how long it has been since he narrated this hadith to me; he narrated this hadith to me fifty years ago.

Hadith Number: 1687
عن علي رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إذا ركع لو وضع قدح من ماء على ظهره لم يهرق
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruku‘, he would be so straight that if a bowl of water were placed on his back, it would not spill.
