الْفَصْلُ الثَّانِي فِي الْوِتْرِ بِثَلَاثٍ
Second Section on Witr with Three Units
Hadith Number: 2206
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصلي من الليل ثماني ركعات ويوتر بثلاث ويصلي ركعتين (وفي رواية ويصلي ركعتي الفجر) فلما كبر صار إلى تسع، ست وثلاث
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer eight units of prayer at night and three witr, after which he would offer the two sunnah of Fajr. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became advanced in age, his night prayer became nine units, that is, six units and three witr.

Hadith Number: 2207
عن علي رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يوتر بثلاث
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform three rak'ahs of Witr.

Hadith Number: 2208
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم اوتر بثلاث بـ {سبح اسم ربك الاعلى} و{قل يا ايها الكافرون} و{قل هو الله احد}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed three Witr and recited Surah Al-A'la, Surah Al-Kafiroon, and Surah Al-Ikhlas in them.
