كِتَابُ الْجَنَائِزِ
Book of Funerals
بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي نَعْيِ الْمَيِّتِ
Chapter on what is reported regarding announcing the death of the deceased
Hadith Number: 3086
عن بلال العبسي عن حذيفة بن اليمان رضي الله عنه انه كان إذا مات له ميت قال: لا تؤذنوا به احدا، إني اخاف ان يكون نعيا، إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ينهى عن النعي
When someone from among the people of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he would say: Do not inform anyone of his death; I fear that this act of informing may fall under the prohibited form of announcement, and I have heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade announcing someone's death.

حكم: اسناه ضعيف لانقطاعه
Hadith Number: 3087
(وعنه من طريق ثان) عن حذيفة رضي الله عنه قال: نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم عن النعي
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade announcing the news of someone's death.

Hadith Number: 3088
عن ابي الزبير قال: سئل جابر عما يدعى للميت؟ فقال: ما اباح لنا فيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ولا ابو بكر ولا عمر رضي الله عنهما
Abu Zubair says: Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the call made for the deceased, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not permit us to do this.
