Chapter: What has been reported regarding seeking exposure (to Allah’s mercy), its forms, and its virtue
Hadith Number: 5701
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make these supplications: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire, from the punishment of the Fire, from the trial of the grave, from the punishment of the grave, from the evil of the trial of wealth, from the evil of the trial of poverty. I seek refuge in You from the trial of the false messiah Dajjal. O Allah, wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and purify my heart from errors as You purify a white garment from filth. Put a distance between me and my sins as You have put a distance between the East and the West. O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from laziness, extreme old age, sin, and debt."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from miserliness, cowardice, the torment of the grave, the most disgraceful age, and the trial of the chest. Imam Waki’ said: The trial of the chest is that a person dies in such a state that he has committed any of the aforementioned evils, but has not yet repented.
