It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that at night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to feel pain, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) started to complain and turned about on his bed. I (Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) said: If any one of us had done this, you would have noticed it. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the righteous experience severe pain, and the situation is such that whatever pain befalls a believer, whether it is a thorn or something greater than that, because of it one of his sins is forgiven and one rank is raised.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, when Allah Almighty loves a people, He tests them; so whoever wishes to be patient, for him is patience, and whoever becomes impatient, for him is impatience.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man met a woman who had been an adulteress during the time of ignorance. He began to flirt with her, to the extent that he touched her with his hand. Upon this, the woman said: "Stop! Indeed, Allah Almighty has taken away shirk and ignorance and has brought us Islam." So the man left, and on his way back, his face struck a wall and he was injured. Then he came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the entire incident to him. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a servant for whom Allah Almighty intended good, and when Allah intends good for someone, He hastens the punishment for his sin. And when He intends evil for a servant, He withholds the punishment for his sin, until on the Day of Resurrection he is given full recompense, as if it were the 'Ir mountain."

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a servant's sins become numerous, while he does not have enough good deeds to atone for his sins, then Allah Almighty begins to test him with sorrows, until through them He wipes away his evils.
