It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed the Fajr prayer, the servants of Madinah would come with containers in which there was water. So, whichever container was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would dip his hand into it. Sometimes it would happen that people would bring water on a cold morning, yet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would still dip his hand into it.

Someone told them that the companion of the Messenger of Allah, our master Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him), is present here. He says: So we came to him, greeted him with salam, and then we asked him questions. He said: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with this hand. Then he brought out his hand; his palm was large. So we got up, went to him, and kissed both of his palms.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when food was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would eat from it and send the leftover food to Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him). He would look for the marks of the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) fingers and place his own fingers where he saw the traces of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) fingers. One day, food was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a plate, but when he sensed the smell of garlic from it, he did not eat from it and sent all of it to Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him). When he did not see the marks of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) fingers, he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I do not see the traces of your fingers in this food, what is the reason? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I sensed the smell of garlic in this food. He said: Then why do you send to me something which you yourself do not eat? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, the reason is that an angel comes to me.
