It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bent and crooked, and even inferior and dry dates were not available to him in such quantity that he (peace and blessings be upon him) could eat to his fill.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his family would spend several consecutive nights in a state of hunger; they would not have dinner, and their usual bread was made of barley.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that the family of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), were never fully satisfied with barley and wheat bread, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from this transient world. Abu Abdur Rahman said: My father, Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him), had crossed out this hadith in his book. When I asked him about it, he narrated this hadith to me and marked it with the sign "Sahh" (authentic, authentic), and he said: My father had crossed out this hadith because he did not like the narrator from whom Yazid narrates.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) that barley bread would not remain leftover from the household of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), (that is, the amount of food was such that it would barely suffice for the household).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had seen white flour before his passing. He replied: No, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see white flour with his own eyes until he passed away. Then Sayyiduna Sahl was asked whether you had sieves during the Prophetic era. He said: We did not have sieves. He was asked: Then what did you do with barley flour (which contains husk)? He said: We would just blow on it, so whatever husk flew away, flew away, (and the remaining flour we would knead).
