It is narrated from Muhammad bin Amr, he says: Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh narrated to me, and he was an extremely handsome and beautiful, large-bodied, and tall man. He says: I went to serve Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and he asked me who I was. I replied: I am Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh. He said: You resemble Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). After that, he began to weep and wept profusely and said: May Allah have mercy on Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), he was the most robust and tallest among us. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army to Akidar, the governor of Duma, and he sent a silk cloak embroidered with gold to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it and stood or sat on the pulpit; he did not say anything and descended as he was. People began to touch and look at the cloak (and were amazed at its excellence). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you amazed at this cloak? The noble Companions replied: Yes, why not, we have never seen a better garment than this. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The cloth you are looking at, in Paradise, the handkerchiefs of Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) are more precious than this.

Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah narrates from his grandmother, Sayyidah Rumaysah (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while I was so close to him that if I had wished at that moment, I could have kissed the Seal of Prophethood on him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For him, the Throne of Allah shook. By him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him), on the day he passed away.

It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that when Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, his mother began to weep and wail. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do your tears not stop? Does the burden of your grief not lighten?
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was wounded on the day of the Trench.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Banu Qurayza agreed to the decision of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) and called him. He came riding on a donkey. When he reached near Masjid Nabawi, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and go to your chief," or he said, "Stand up and go to your leader (and help him dismount from the donkey)." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): "These Jewish people have agreed to have you decide their case." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), while making the decision, said: "Their fighting men should be killed and their children and women should be taken as captives." Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have given the decision of Allah regarding them (i.e., the decision you have made is also approved by Allah)." And at another time, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "You have given a kingly decision."

A long hadith is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), in which it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): You have given such a verdict regarding Banu Qurayza that Allah Almighty and His Messenger also approved of this verdict. After this, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) made a supplication and said: O Allah! If You have kept any battle with Quraysh for Your Prophet, then keep me alive to participate in it, and if You have completed the series of battles between Your Prophet and Quraysh, then take me to Yourself. After this supplication, his wound burst open, although it had completely healed, only a minor wound the size of a ring’s circle remained. Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to the tent which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had set up for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to him. By the One in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I was in my chamber and I could distinctly recognize the crying voices of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Their mutual relationship was just as Allah Almighty has said: {رُحَمَاء ُ بَیْنَہُمْ} … They are extremely merciful to one another. (Surah Al-Fath: 29) Alqama, who narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), asked: Mother! What was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on such occasions? She said: Tears would not come to your eyes at someone’s death, but when you were grieved, you would hold your blessed beard in your hand.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: This is a righteous servant, for whom the Throne of Allah swayed and the gates of the heavens were opened for his reception, but in the grave he was subjected to a single hardship, after which Allah Almighty removed that difficulty. And the narrator said once: Then Allah Almighty granted ease. On one occasion, the narrator explained in detail: The day Sayyiduna Sa’d, may Allah be pleased with him, passed away and was being buried, at that time the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said these things about him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: One day we went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) on the occasion of his death. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his funeral prayer and he was placed in the grave and the earth was leveled over him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) glorified Allah, and we also glorified Allah with him for quite a while. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said Allahu Akbar, and we also said Allahu Akbar with him. Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! What was the reason for your saying Subhan Allah and Allahu Akbar? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The grave had become constricted for this righteous servant until Allah Almighty made it spacious for him.
