Virtues of the Qur'an
Hadith Number: 111
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا مهدي بن ميمون ، قال: سالت محمد بن سيرين عن كتاب المصاحف بالاجر، قال:" كره كتابتها، واستكتابها، وبيعها، وشراؤها" .
Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about taking wages for writing copies of the Qur'an, so he said: "Writing it, having it written, selling it, and buying it have all been disliked."

Hadith Number: 112
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا ابو عوانة ، عن ابي حصين ، عن ابي الضحى ، قال: سالت شريحا ، ومسروقا ، وعبد الله بن يزيد ، عن بيع المصاحف، فقالوا: " لا تاخذ لكتاب الله ثمنا" .
Abu Ad-Duha (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him), Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him), and Abdullah bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) about buying and selling copies of the Qur'an, so they said: "Do not take any price in exchange for the Book of Allah."

Hadith Number: 113
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا عبد العزيز بن عبد الصمد العمي ، قال: اخبرنا مالك بن دينار ، قال: دخل علي جابر بن زيد وانا اكتب، فقلت: كيف ترى صنعتي هذه يا ابا الشعثاء؟، فقال: " ما احسن صنعتك! تنقل كتاب الله ورقة إلى ورقة، وآية إلى آية، وكلمة إلى كلمة، هذا الحلال لا باس به" .
Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Jabir bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) came to me while I was writing, so I said: "O Abu al-Sha'tha! What do you say about this writing of mine?" He replied: "Your craftsmanship is very beautiful. You are transferring the Book of Allah from one page to another, from one verse to another, and from one word to another. This is permissible; there is no harm in it."

Hadith Number: 114
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا جرير ، عن منصور ، عن إبراهيم ، قال: " اراد علقمة ان يكتب مصحفا، فكره ان يعطي على كتابته اجرا، فاشترى ورقه ومداده، وما ينبغي، واعطاه بعض اصحابه، فكتبه له" .
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) wanted to have a Mushaf written, but he disliked paying a wage for its transcription. Therefore, he himself bought paper, ink, and the necessary materials for it, and gave them to one of his companions so that he could write it for him.

Hadith Number: 115
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا عبد العزيز بن عبد الصمد ، قال: اخبرنا مالك بن دينار ،" ان عكرمة باع مصحفا له، وان الحسن كان لا يرى به باسا" .
Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) sold his Mushaf, and Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) did not see any harm in it.

Hadith Number: 116
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا هشيم ، قال: اخبرنا يونس ، عن الحسن " انه كان لا يرى باسا ببيعها واشترائها" .
It is narrated from Yunus, may Allah have mercy on him, that Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, did not see any harm in the buying and selling of (copies of) the Mushaf.

Hadith Number: 117
حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا هشيم ، قال: اخبرنا داود ، عن الشعبي ، انه سئل عن ذلك، فقال:" إنما يبيع ثمن ورقه واجر كتابه" ،
Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Shu’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about this matter (the buying and selling of manuscripts), so he replied: He only sells the price of its paper and the wages of its scribes.

It is narrated from Sha'bi, may Allah have mercy on him, in a similar manner that he said: He only sells the price of the paper and the fee of the scribe.

حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا حدثنا سعيد، قال: اخبرنا هشيم ، قال: اخبرنا ليث ، عن مجاهد ، عن ابن عباس ، قال: " اشتر المصاحف ولا تبعها" ،
It is narrated from Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Buy copies of the Qur'an, but do not sell them.
